Portugal D2 Visa Guide 2026

What is the D2 Visa?

The D2 Visa is Portugal's residency route for non-EU entrepreneurs and freelancers who want to start, relocate, or invest in a business in Portugal. There is no minimum investment amount — approval depends on a viable, well-documented business plan.

Who is eligible?

Anyone starting a new business, relocating an existing one, or working as a self-employed professional serving international or Portuguese clients. Applicants must show financial means and a credible business plan.

Minimum income/savings requirement

Applicants must demonstrate at least €920/month in personal funds (Portugal's 2026 minimum wage), roughly €11,040/year, plus sufficient business capital to operate. A commonly used capital reference for company formation is around €5,000.
